The Minsky Institute for Artificial Intelligence performs basic research on artificial intelligence with a focus on commonsense thinking. Building on Marvin Minsky’s work on the society of mind and the emotion machine, we are addressing the following questions: How can we understand the mind? How do we build flexible, general intelligent systems? How do we build systems that can explain their reasoning? How can artificial intelligence help address the problems humanity now faces?
